Bison Baseball Opens With Tough Loss To Huntingdon Bearcats
Bearcat ace and Shippensburg commit Jared Showalter stymied the Bison offense, surrendering only one hit and one unearned run in the chilly opener for both teams. It was played on the campus of Juniata College due to recent floods which hit the high school field. The big blow of the game was a three run homer by Alex Muycut. Nick Zanic added two hits and two runs scored for Huntingdon.
Clearfield’s run was scored by Nate Barr in the sixth inning due to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Ty Bender. Eli Glass had the Bison’s only hit. Starter Jake Sorbera actually pitched well, giving up only five hits while striking out five batters. He issued only one walk. Glass pitched one inning in relief.
Pre-season reports show Huntingdon to be a strong contender for league, district and state titles with 8 returning starters and six players already committed to Division One or Division Two colleges.
Clearfield’s next scheduled contest will be Tuesday, April 3rd at home against Bellefonte
