Clearfield Fall Ball wraps up 16th season

The 2015 Fall Ball season closed out on October 22nd with over 30 players participating. Two teams were formed this year. The younger team (“The Rookies”) was made up of players from grades 6,7,and 8. Coaches were Chris Peacock and Aaron Williams. The older team (“The Vets”), coached by Sid Lansberry, Ed Yeager, John Bumbarger, and Derek Danver , included players from grades 9-12. All players are Clearfield Area School District students.

Practices were held twice a week, with games being played mostly on the weekends. The younger team practiced on Monday and Wednesday, while the older team took Tuesday and Thursday. The emphasis was on fundamentals and skill development. All players were given ample playing time in the games.

The rookies played ten games, winning 7, losing 2, and tying one. The veterans played 11 games against outside opponents, winning 6, losing 4, and tying one. The schedules for both teams included a variety of teams, including Punxsutawney, Curwensville, Brookville, Indiana, Marion Center, Dubois, Bellefonte, Mifflin County, Juniata, West Branch, and Bishop Guilfoyle.

At the conclusion of the season, the annual “Fall Ball World Series” was held. (best of five). Two teams were drafted, with players from both rosters being chosen. Jon Trimpey and Seth Bumbarger sereved as captains for the “Sloppy Johns” team, while Justin Fedder and Will Myers led the “Fedderwaps”.

Game #1 of the series was a close, high scoring affair, with Fedder’s team taking a 15 -12 win. Zane Morgan was the winning pitcher while Fedder led the offense with 3 hits. Tommy Hazel ((4hits, 4RBI, HR), Seth Bumbarger (3hits, 3 RBI ), and Wyatt Porter (2doubles, 4 RBI) did all the damage for the losers.

Game #2 featured a dominant pitching performance by Will Myers (9 Ks), as the “Sloppy Johns” could muster only three hits in a 10-1 loss. Fedder’s team took a commanding 2-0 series lead, with Marcus Luzier the hitting star (3 hits,3 rbis).

In Game #3, the “Fedderwaps” made a clean sweep of the series with an 8-1 win. Luzier was the winning pitcher and helped himself with two hits. Will Myers and rookie Nate Barr added two hits each as well. For the losing team, Jarrit Wagner enjoyed a good day with three hits.

Including the World Series games, there were a total of 39 players participating this season, which marked the 16th year of Clearfield Fall Ball.

All the coaches wished to express their sincere thanks to all those parents and grandparents who volunteered their services by working in the concession stand.
